Survey on TfL’s proposed bus route changes
TfL recently announced proposed changes and closures of bus routes running through Southwark. I have already spoken with many of you about your concerns with the proposed changes. I am meeting with Deputy Mayor for Transport, Heidi Alexander, on Friday 5th October to discuss these concerns and would welcome your input on this. If you are a constituent please let me know your thoughts by filling in the short survey at the bottom of this page. Please also contribute to TfL’s own consultation which runs until 9th November.
Below is a summary of the proposals for routes which start, end or pass through Bermondsey and Old Southwark. Please note that there are many other proposed changes to routes across London, all of which can be viewed here.
Routes that run to/from/via London Bridge:
-The RV1 from Tower Gateway to Covent Garden will be scrapped. Map and details from TfL here.
-Route 48 from Walthamstow Central to London Bridge will be scrapped. Map and details from TfL here.
-Route 149 will see increased Monday – Saturday daytime frequencies, and decreased evening and Sunday frequencies. Map and details from TfL here.
-Route 343* will be extended to run from Aldgate East, rather than Tower Bridge. Map and details from TfL here.
Routes that run to/from/via Elephant and Castle:
–Increase peak frequencies on route 35 to buses every 7.5 minutes, as well as introducing a return journey Map and details from TfL here.
–Change route 40 so it no longer runs between Aldgate and Dulwich (via Elephant and Castle) but instead runs from Clerkenwell Green to Dulwich (via Elephant and Castle). Map and details from TfL here.
-Shorten route 45 from King’s Cross to Clapham Park, to run from Elephant and Castle to Clapham Park. Map and details from TfL here.
-The 53 bus will stop at Westminster Bridge Road, rather than Whitehall. Map and details from TfL here.
-Scrap bus 171’s route between Bloomsbury and Elephant and Castle, and instead run the 171 from Elephant and Castle to Bellingham. Map and details from TfL here.
-Route 343* will be extended to run from Aldgate East, rather than Tower Bridge. Map and details from TfL here.
-Route 388 will no longer run from Stratford City to Elephant and Castle (instead it will terminate at Liverpool Street Station). Map and details from TfL here.
