Today I met with ‘Capital Letters’, a not-for-profit organisation who work with councils in London to help them find good quality accommodation for homeless families.
In Southwark alone we have over 3,000 homeless families living in temporary accommodation. Sadly this number is only set to increase due to a decade of Tory-led Government policies. The impact is awful for the people directly affected but it also costs councils more to use temporary accommodation but Ministers have caused the problem to rise dramatically since 2010.
Fighting homelessness continues to be one of my top priorities in Parliament, where I chair the cross-party group on Ending Homelessness. There are so many great organisations like Capital Letters who are working hard to end homelessness up and down the country, and I am in touch with Ministers to try and ensure that their funding is guaranteed beyond the end of this month.
