In the past month I’ve been engaged in the line-by-line scrutiny of the Nationality & Borders Bill.
It was not fun to see this truly awful piece of legislation at close quarters and I’ve written a short piece for PoliticsHome on the experience.
As it stands, the Bill would breach international law, break maritime laws, and risks criminalising the RNLI who have their busiest station here in London.
Other parts of the Bill are embarrassing, unworkable and plain stupid, with plans to “offshore” asylum seekers described by other countries (who Tory Ministers claimed would be involved) as “fake news”.
Johnson’s Goverment is making the UK a laughing stock and the Bill is sadly an international embarrassment for us all.
