Many constituents have been seeking my help following the UK’s humiliating evacuation from Afghanistan which is now back in Taliban hands.
The UK Chargé d’affaires for Afghanistan is now based in Doha, Qatar. Last week I went to Qatar to meet our representatives there and to meet the Qatari Foreign Minister and his team (including the Deputy Foreign Minister, pictured) to seek help to get constituents home, including four British nationals and two Afghans who already have a legal right to be in the UK but were left behind when the UK abandoned Kabul.
Whilst in Doha, I visited a refugee camp where Afghan children showed me their artwork and asked for help to reach their families elsewhere, including two in London. Their plight is our responsibility and one that weighs heavy knowing that some constituents’ family members have already been killed by the Taliban since August.
