Today’s Queen’s speech was a damp squib given the huge expectations of a Government with a stonking majority and as we emerge from a huge national crisis.
Jobs, housing, security and improving the NHS and social care should have been the priorities but the Tories have again broken their 2019 election manifesto by failing to deliver a plan for social care despite the heroic efforts of the care workforce during the pandemic.
Instead we will see Planning law reform to benefit off-shore developers with Tory ties, but look set to weaken community involvement and abandon the thousands of leaseholders facing financial ruin from Government-required fire safety works.
We can also expect legal wrangling as Ministers seek to avoid more scrutiny and attempt to fiddle elections by preventing some people voting.
No one asked for this and we all deserve a better Government.
