In the last two days the Government and most Conservative MPs have twice voted to remove vital financial protections for leaseholders from the Fire Safety Bill. With this session of Parliament due to end tomorrow ahead of the State Opening by the Queen on Tuesday 11th May Ministers look set to fail their promises to protect leaseholders.
There is now a real chance that this Bill will fall, meaning more delays to fire safety works nearly four years after the horrors of Grenfell.
I will keep backing leaseholders and trying to secure faster, better help from the Government under any further proposals that come forward.
On Tuesday 11th May at 6pm I will also be holding an online meeting to update everyone on the progress of legislation and wider work on the issues involved. We will be joined by lead representatives from the End Our Cladding Scandal coalition to talk about the pressure external campaigns have been putting on the Government and how to get involved in the wider campaign.
