The Government has announced it is cutting funding to Southwark schools this year. The ‘pupil premium’ support for disadvantaged and disabled children is vital funds to ensure all local children have the best opportunities but Ministers have changed how it is allocated in a cynical move to axe help, despite all the Hard work of schools during covid to support key workers’ children and run online learning.
The cut to schools in Southwark is over £1million and will hit families where a parent has lost work due to covid, but shamefully, the Department for Education is refusing to publish the information on the number of children affected, or the total cut Ministers are inflicting across the country. I will continue to press the Government on this until they are upfront about the money which will be lost to families and schools.
