Today is International Women’s Day. I have been campaigning alongside Refuge Charity & Crisis
to ensure anyone fleeing domestic abuse could access a permanent, settled home. This year, it was fantastic to join RefugeFest on Saturday morning to discuss the success of the #ASafeHome campaign. Despite initially resisting our campaign, the Government belatedly adopted our amendment which will enshrine this right in law. The increase we have seen in domestic violence during the pandemic and lockdowns shows exactly why this important reform can’t come soon enough and the importance of a Labour council here in Southwark implementing the policy before it is even on the statute book!
