Pleased to be re-elected chair of the reconstituted All Party Parliamentary Group on Ending the Need for Food Banks. This was a group I first set up in 2017 and I am extremely proud to carry on its crucial work.
In 2010 there were 40,000 packages of food bank support given out, this reached over 1.4 million in 2019 before the pandemic hit after almost a decade of Tory (and some Lib Dem) policies, including Universal Credit delays, debts and deductions.
I am hugely grateful to food banks and the army of volunteers who sustain them – in hours of work and tons of donations. But I hope the reconstituted group can help rebuild a social security system which no longer leaves so many people reliant on food banks!
