Today, 20th November, marks ‘Equal Pay Day’. Despite 50 years since Labour’s Equal Pay Act in 1970, women still effectively work for free from now till the end of the year, compared to men due to unequal pay.
This year, Covid has set back workplace security for women further, with even pregnant women targeted for job losses sadly. Our country should come out of this crisis with a renewed commitment to tackling unequal pay and Labour is calling on the Government to reintroduce Gender Pay Gap reporting so we can see how employers are performing in tackling this problem.
