The Government’s own statistics show that there has been a 600,000 rise in the number of children living in poverty across the country. The last Labour Government had legislated to abolish child poverty by 2020 but this target was scrapped by Cameron and Clegg. Johnson is out of touch when it comes to poverty, as his defeat by Marcus Rashford showed.

The sad reality is that up to 40% of children in Southwark live in poverty and the figures have risen as a result of Government policies and will be made worse by COVID19 and associated job losses in local families. Families need our support but Johnson seems ignorant of, and indifferent to, people’s needs.
