England footballer Marcus Rashford has written a strong appeal for a more empathetic Government approach to holiday hunger facing kids in Southwark and across the country. He says: ‘This is not about politics; this is about humanity’. His intervention is welcome in the face of Johnson’s intention to scrap help for disadvantage families.
I’ve been working on this issue and have helped several holiday schemes and run a foodbank from my local office. Last week I joined MPs calling for the free school meals vouchers to be extended over the summer holidays. I hope the Government now listens but Johnson’s track record is dismal sadly.
