Southwark Council has been fantastic in its response to the pandemic. It has acted swiftly and gone above and beyond to protect people’s lives and livelihoods. Councils were initially told they would have financial backing from Government but the message since has been mixed and confused. I wrote to the Secretary of State for Local Government asking that Southwark Council is reimbursed for all it has spent to tackle the crisis.
