Today I wrote to the Government as co-chair of the Parliamentary Group on Ending Homelessness. I welcome action taken to reduce risks to rough sleepers in this crisis. The additional funding for councils is welcome but the level of the problem should never have arisen.
I’m calling for ring-fenced funds to continue to support the most vulnerable, as well as asking that all those who are homeless are eligible for help regardless of Home Office rules.
It has taken a global emergency for the Government to address the homeless crisis. Ministers must not allow the problem to re-emerge when the lockdown ends. The Government must also ensure that anyone who has fled home due to domestic violence is offered a safe, permanent home.
