Today I attended the first official Bermondsey and Rotherhithe poppy appeal launch at Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. It has been a pleasure volunteering on stalls in previous years and it was fitting to celebrate all the hard work which is done during the months of October and November each year, as well as take time to reflect on the sacrifices made for us. Southwark has strong ties to our armed forces and I am always proud to support this campaign.
The day unfolded with performances from The North London Military Wives’ Choir, poppy making workshops, D-Day Photo Display, and a poppy cake sale. There was also a two minute silence at 11.00am with sounding of the last post to pay respect to service personnel lost in conflict.
