108 years ago, almost to this day, 14,000 Bermondsey women went on strike from the many local factories, joining their male friends and relatives on the picket lines. Their struggle was led by pioneering socialists and trade unionists, Ada Salter, Mary MacArthur and Eveline Lowe. Today I pay tribute to the legacy of these women and for the years of service Ada Salter gave to the people of Bermondsey and Old Southwark.

Bermondsey has always been at the heart of the Labour movement looking out for ordinary people and I am proud to be your Labour representative in Parliament today.
