After 9 years of council cuts, the Government is imposing a new legal duty to provide emergency refuge accommodation to anyone fleeing domestic abuse. The duty should be welcome, but must come with the resources to meet demand. Too many people, mostly women, are turned away when needing refuge.

I chair the parliamentary group on ending homelessness and am also campaigning to ensure that anyone made homeless as a result of domestic abuse has automatic priority for housing on a permanent basis, not just for temporary emergency accommodation. I asked the Secretary of State to deliver that priority today. You can view the video below.
