It hasn’t all been Brexit business this week. On Wednesday I also raised severe cuts to Southwark council funding from central Government since 2010 in a Westminster Hall debate. Austerity under the Lib Dem/Tory Coalition and current regime has seen 50% lost – with another £8.6 million being cut this year.

As well as axeing resources, the Government has piled on new demands to our council to help disabled people losing benefits, affected by Universal Credit delays and other problems, made homeless or forced to require emergency support from social services.

Last year Theresa May claimed that ‘austerity is over’. Another act of deceit and contempt for councils and communities like ours.
