For more than two years Theresa May has deluded herself that she can deliver the unicorns promised by the Leave campaign. Her meagre stopgap position is now before Parliament. After prematurely triggering Article 50 without a plan, her negotiating team have only managed to bring back a wish-list for the future that fails to appease her party’s Brextremists.

May is now colliding with reality. Her proposals would downgrade the UK – costing jobs and opportunities, risking security, undermining our international standing and influence, losing GDP and causing costs to rise for British customers as well as denying UK citizens education, leisure, and work opportunities across the wealthiest and strongest trading bloc on the planet.

She does not have support to get her proposals through. 90 Tory MPs have stated they will oppose her, the Labour whip will be to vote against and, whilst the Lib Dem MP for Eastbourne has said he will vote for May, other parties will help vote it down. Even the billion pound bung May gave the DUP has failed to buy their votes. Her proposals are sunk.

A new People’s Vote feels closer than ever. I am hopeful any new vote will include an option to remain in the EU. Time is running out and there appears no other way out for the Government or our country to break the logjam. I’m glad my pressure has helped move the Labour position and if you’re not already a member please sign up to build further pressure!

I’ve opposed Brexit from the beginning – and broke the whip to vote against triggering Article 50. I will never vote for anything which would harm my community and there is no greater harm facing the whole country than Brexit and May’s massive downgrade.

If you live in another constituency you can check how your MP is going to vote here and you can write to them to ask them to reject the deal and call for a People’s Vote here.
